The Jewel In The Crown – His Farewell Message

4 Comments | Posted on 01.07.14 by Periyava Puranam

We have read that Maha Periyava once said,

“God expresses Himself in many inexplicable forms and exposes His presence in many mysterious ways! “

Thinking deeply, it makes us realize what HE said applies to HIM!

Isn’t that how HE expressed Himself and exposed Himself all through His Life for 100 years? As we continue to feel the very presence of HIM every day, what’s most fascinating is, even after 20 years  since HE left His mortal body (on Jan 8th 1994), what HE said applies to HIM in present and will continue to hold true for the future to come as well…

Of so many ways through which we feel His presence, listening to His “Divine Voice” gives closeness to HIM.   As we listen to HIM more & more, one would surely agree that listening to His Upanyasam is a unique evolving process…

At first, when we listen to Maha Periyava talking, it takes a while for us to get used to His accent, His style of talk… “Onume Puriyalaiye…” is almost the first common expression… It is indeed the first acid test in our path of wisdom!

Once we pass the test and pursue further, we get to enjoy “Hearing” to HIM as opposed to “Listening” to HIM!

As we keep hearing His Voice more & more, our inner mind slowly starts to “Listen” to what HE says…

At that point, we tend to awe at the various facets of His Upanyasam… He talks Religion, Veda Sastram, Yoga Sastram, Dharmam, Society, Culture, Karma, Bhakthi, Ithihasam, Puranam… He explains Physics, Meta-Physics, Chemistry, Botany… He analyzes Archaeology, Astronomy, Law & Order…

As we continue to awe, we slowly start to relate to His Feelings…. When HE cries out for “Veda Samraksham”, our heart sobs! HIS sense of humor makes us laugh out loud… HIS wits (very subtle) bring an instant grin in our face… His anger (which is more of His grief that is purely Objective) makes us feel sorry for what we have been…

With such feelings, when we listen to Maha Periyava’s farewell message rendered on March 16th 1959, it gives us a heavy heart… This message by Maha Periyava is the Jewel in the Crown! It feels as if we were around HIM all the time during His stay in Chennai and now the day had come where He is bidding a bye…

It is going to be nearly 55 years since this speech was delivered by HIM… Few of us would have been there, listened to HIM, few of us would have just been born then, few of us wouldn’t even have been born then… Yet, the feeling is unanimous…

HIS  farewell message can be listened and downloaded from below:

MahaPeriyava Farewell Speech – March 16th 1959 – Sanksrit College , Chennai by Mahaperiyava Puranam on Mixcloud

His Heap of Humility in this farewell message shatters the ego that we all exhibit one time or the other…

It is very soothing to hear in God’s own voice: “Neenga Vera, Naan Vera Ella, Neenga Yelarum Sendhu Dhan Naan”

Let’s pay our Obeisance to Him who bestows happiness to all people in all ways and at all times!
