Devotees Of Sri Matam used to offer Manjal Koththu to Sri MahaPeriyava and use that for Pongal Paanai on Pongal Day. This year, on Bhogi day, Manjal Koththu was offered not only to Sri MahaPeriyava but also to Sri Sivan SAR.

Maatu Pongal is being celebrated by Thiruvaarur Kamalathammal family in a special way as per Sri MahaPeriyava’s Utharavu. Advocate Sri Chandrasekar along with his two elder brothers share their experience and their family’s Maatu Pongal Tradition that they have been observing since 1989-1990 as per Periyava’s Utharavu!

//Jersey than inga erukku, maximum// – isn’t this a concern? Though jersey cows also have to be protected, shouldn’t preference be given to our local breeds, especially since the sheeram, komiyam, pasum shaanam, etc are medicinal only in local breeds and there are reports that most of the output from Jerseys and other foreign breeds, though more in quantity, does not have any medicinal value and even toxic. Also with vanishing local breeds at commercial diaries and farmers, there are very little places to protect local breeds from being extinct. Sri Matam to please look into this, if appropriate.
