Sri Gowrishankar Mama reached the lotus feet of Sri MahaPeriyava on March 28, 2017 at about 10 AM IST. He was on a visit to Srirangam on March 27 and was brought to Ramana Maharshi Hospital in Athyanthal for treatment on March 28.
His interview taken 5-6 years ago has touched the heart of so many devotees. One could see his passion when he was repeating the lyrics of Kannadasan about Sri MahaPeriyava. Mama is hospitable to anyone who visits his house and fills not only everyone’s stomach and but also their thoughts by talking about Sri MahaPeriyava.
Once at Satara, Periyava enquired about his only son who was about 11 years old and told, “உன் பிள்ளைய வேதத்துக்காக கொடு… அவன் உன் வயசுல உன்ன மாதிரி மூணு மடங்கு சம்பாதிப்பான்!”. Sri Gowrishankar Mama has taken the word. So Sri Mama gave their ONLY son to ‘Vedas’. That’s the reason we’ve today got Sri Senthil Ganapadigal. Periyava also blessed another son (nearly ten years after the first) but Sri Gowrishankar Mama decided to give his EVERY son to ‘Vedas’! Not only that, he also ensured that his daughters were also married to Veda Pandits.

Wonderful tribute to an exemplary who lived a life of inspiration. Prayers to Periyava to bless us with a similar mind as that of Gowrishankar Mama and show us the right path.
I was blessed and fortunate to have met him with my wife on 17th Dec 2016.
He was keeping fit and talked with us narrating his experience with SRI SRI SRI SRI MAHA PERIYAVA for more than 30 minutes.
I am much pained to hear his demise.
We are sure that his soul got merged with SRI SRI SRI SRI MAHA PERIYAVA.

I still remember the days I had interacted with Him during my early days in the early 70s at Calcutta at his house at Dover Terrace. He was behind and the pillar of our Bhajan group FMC. Also, had the opportunity to go to Sabari Malai (my first trip) with Him. Always impressed by His devotion and commitment. Met Him some 4 years back at Thiruvannamalai. Pranams to Gowri Anna.

Listened to Sri Gowrishankar’s speech for the first. Sad to hear a person of such calibre passing way. Learnt that God is one, who is in different forms. He brought out the oneness of Ramakrishna Paramahamsar, Ramanamaharishi and Periyava . Love to hear anymore stories told by Sri Gowrishankar about the spiritual leaders.
I am hearing his interview again& again. It gives inner peace.

We were fortunate to have had a very brief chat with Mama during one of our visits to Ramanashramam. We recall his blessings to us with great reverence.
A great loss to the community of MahaPeriyava devotees. Knew him intimately for about 7 / 8 years. Spent many ecstatic hours while he recounted many of his experiences with MahaPeriyava. A multi-faceted personality, he could recite many devotional poems in Tamil, especially on Lord Muruga. And effortlessly switch to Sanskrit slokas like Lalitha Saharanamam etc. And not just recite them mechanically but with intense devotional fervour. May he bless us so that we may also have a fraction of the devotion that he had towards MahaPeriyava & Bhagavan Ramanar. Not forgetting his intense devotion towards Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa & Sri Seshadri Swamigal and all the Mahans of this truly blessed land. Arunachala!
