We thank Shri.K.Rangarajan for sharing these treasures and his experiences with HH Sri MahaPeriyava and HH Sri Pudhu Periyava. Each sketch has a wonderful history behind it, immense effort by the artist and to top it all, blessings from our Periyavas. From the artist’s own words:
Sri MahaPeriyava’s majestic sitting posture (drawn on 04.11.1973 )
“Some days before this sketch was drawn I dreamt that Mahaperiava is distributing Prasadam to all including me.I vaguely remember that the Prasadam was SAKKARAI PONGAL. I could get this drawn by pencil without using eraser from a photo which came my way then. (Now this is wrinkled inside a glass frame)”
Sri MahaPeriyava adorning vilva malai ( drawn on 21.09.1975 )
“This is a reproduction of a black and white photo which compelled me to draw in pencil color. Actually I was not aware that I was really blessed by MahaPeriyava then and now I am repenting for my ignorance.”
HH PudhuPeriyava’s sketch(drawn on 04.12.1979)
“This was drawn when I was working near GOKAK as senior project engineer for a sugar mill in Ghataprabha. During the working hours on a particular day I was in the site, I was called by my assistant that there is a phone call from Gokak. The person on the other side told me that MahaPeriyava is coming walking towards the factory road on way to Sankeshwar. Till date I do not know who made the call and how did he come to know my presence there. I immediately came to my quarters took my wife and 6 yr. old daughter, called some senior officials of the factory to the main road. On reaching the road we saw MahaPeriyava coming walking, his rickshaw following, few vaidihas following him. On seeing us he stopped. I introduced that I am Rangarajan, working in the construction of the sugar factory nearby. He asked me whether I am a vaishnavite. He blessed all of us and also the project I was working. On returning to the quarters, my wife was amazed to see the electric iron which was left ON over the clothing did not do any damage to the clothing. Even today whenever I pray MahaPeriyava , I think of the scene, where I fell on the road to do Sashtanga Namaskaram to him for HIS blessings.”
Kanakabhishekam of Sri MahaPeriyava ( drawn between 01.08.1993 and 31.08.1993 )
“This sketch was done in water color over a period of one month when I was working in Harur for a sugar mill. This is a reproduction (about 16 to 20 times) of a small photograph that came in EXPRESS news paper and was in black and white. I used to draw this only after my working hours i.e., between 7pm and 10pm. Soon after completion of the drawing, I went to Kanchipuram, with the sketch laminated, to get the blessings of MahaPeriyava. There was not much crowd that day. Initially this was shown to Sri Jayendra Saraswathi swamigal who appreciated and sent for the blessings of MahaPeriyava. I remember that Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi swamigal was also present then. After showing to Sri Mahaperiava, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi swamigal asked me whether the two extra faces in the sketch can be removed. I said that this picture is laminated and hence cannot be erased or modified. He said that if this could be done he would take about a lakh copies for distribution to devotees. It is unfortunate that I could not oblige Periyava’s request till date.”
It’s a great journey one should have Jai Guru Datta
Shri K Rangarajan is blessed to have been gifted with this art. of pencil sketching. Maha Periava” s Anugraham is always there to him.
I remember an experience of mine now. I was posted as Signal Officer in one of the Brigades in Udaipur, Rajasthan in 1978-79. At that time Sri Maha Periava, Sri Sri Sri Jeyendra Swamigal was camping in Udaipur with his group of Vaidheehas and others. I visited the camp where Sri Maha Periava was performing the Pooja to Kamakshee Amman. I was asked by one retired Army Officer who was in his group to give some administrative support like water, Barber etc. I was so over whelmed that I could also extend some help. I informed Our Commander Brigadier Harshpati, a devotee of Santhoshee Matha who immediately gave approval and told to give whatever they asked for. I gave whatever help I could give. My wife Lakshmi, could attend the Pooja closely.
When Sri Maha Periava was going to Shyamlajee from Udaipur I with my family had his darshan near to my Brigade entrance and did Sashtanga Namaskaram.
This was one of the memorable events in my life.

We studied and worked together. He used to draw pencil sketches from his boy hood.. I was very glad to see his sketches of Maha Periyava and felt very happy and blessed. All were too good and realistic. Especially the Kanagabishegam sketch with a blend of colour was outstanding. MahaPeriyava Saranam.
Very nice sketchings. Of all the Blessings of Maha Periava, is very great one. Really the sitting posture of Periava, is amazing, and totally looks like a photo. Thanks for sharing. Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara.
