I know why you came to see me…

How seer of Kanchi the Paramacharya silenced the architects of Project Manhattan… Here an interesting incident…

Those were the days when Indians were looked down upon by the west. She had just gained independence. Many of our budding scientists were working abroad and facing the cynicism of the west.

One of them was Dr. Iyengar of the Atomic Energy Commission which became BARC.

Once he was discussing about Paramaacharya when his senior Allen Cummins came and asked what they were discussing. When iyengar told about Paramaacharya Dr. Cummins ridiculed him asking, if your god-man knows everything why India did not make the Atomic Bomb first.

After a few months Iyengar came to India and asked Cummins if he too wished to join him. The man waiting to ridicule Indians agreed. They both came to Chennai and proceeded to Kanchipuram.

On the day they landed, they were asked by Periyaval to take rest and meet the next day.

Cummins felt irritated but something in him made him wait. He had satvic food and realised something around the place. That night he had a peaceful sleep without his regular glass of drink.

Next day they had Darshan and the moment Cummins saw Periyaval he was dumbstruck. For here was a person who was personification of simplicity which later turned to be the personification of knowledge and compassion.

He came to confront Periyavaal but could not ask anything.

‘Did youPERIYAVA 319 see India’ Periyavaal asked Cummins . He just nodded.

‘You saw what Project Manhattan did to Japan and for the same reason we did not reveal the Anu Shastra . It brings only destruction’. The man was as feeble like a jelly, feeling the ground beneath him slipping. He had met presidents and many powerful men but never felt so feeble as he was feeling now. ‘How the hell did he know?

Periyavaal was smiling like an innocent child. ‘I know why you came to see me and I don’t want your visit to go waste. ‘

Then what paramaacharyal told him made him feel still shameful. He heard the entire concept of relativity and atomic theory explained in such a simple language. ‘India will never use the atomic power to destroy, it will be only for constructive purposes.’ Cummins now felt ashamed and futile to work in such atomic project. He sought the Acharya’s blessings and left. He never worked in the atomic sector again. He thanked Iyengar and later became one of the chief architects of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty & who spoke in the UNO about it.

That is the power of Paramaacharyal !

Namasakarams. I was a CEO in a MNC. I was a brahmin by birth. My grandfather was associated with Maha Periyava in Cheyyar and Kalavai. His name is Valkudai Venkatrama Sastrigal. I was a typical male running behing money and fame. I got both. I took care of my parents well. This is the only good deed that I have done in this birth. When I was 47, I quit my job. Did not have any plans as such about future. Have a family of two teen aged sons to take care. One day my sister came home to give me the Saligramam box which has been worshipped in my family for the last 200+ years. I started to wonder if it is God’s command to me to start this new line of life. I did not know how to do Pooja. Started reading Theivathin Kural and Periyava started guiding me at every stage of the pooja and he still does. I started my pooja. I was not having a Poonal but after reading this book, i got answers to all questions that were troubling me for long. Now it is 5 years since I started the pooja, I have completed reading this book twice, every day after pooja I READ atleast a chapter from this book before my breakfast. I have left all intoxicants like supari, beetke leaves, drinks, coffee and tea. I drink only butter milk. I do not eat outside food. I do sandhyvadanam three times a day. My kids are also doing sandhyvadanams. I EXPERIENCE CLOSER TO PERIYAVA and I am contended to this life. i work for Siva and Parvathy, I tell people who ask me what am I doing? I would not have become this kind of a person but for my Guru Periyava. I am sure he will guide me to the next level.
Guruvae Saranam. Hara Hara Shankara. Jaya Jaya Shankara.

I see many people writing someone else’s experience of Periava. Some times it looks like cooked up story. I have personally had Periava’s darshan several times and know from personal experience, he is capable of miracles. But, some narrations make me question the veracity. In this particular episode, did Dr. Iyengar share this experience? If so, how can I access the original narration?

You are correct. I also had the same view. But when I started recording the experience of the devotees, I was surprised to understand that many stories, though it came out with some exaggeration, the core was true. After that I stopped doubting, if the incidents gave more bhakti.

Moreover it has become very difficult to verify the authenticity… And, there is no end to it. Source and authenticity has become very difficult to check in this internet age.

So, just take it, if it gives bhakti, or reject if it doesn’t suit.
